The fire bay and the front line trench was located in the first line of the trench. This line was built in a zig zag formation in order to make it difficult for the enemy to invade the trenches further. These trenches were dug very deep if they were not, the soldiers could be exposed to the enemy. Shells and bombs could fall into the trench easier as well. The back wall of the front line trench was dug out to give soldiers off duty a place to sleep. Soldiers positioned in the fire bag were continuously firing at the enemy side. It also included snipers and other advanced weaponry that was developed during the Industrial Revolution. Some people may consider the fire bay and the front line trench the most dangerous position of the trench system because it was closest to the enemy trench.
